Buttress Roots
Rainforest trees use a system of buttress roots to support such tall trees in thin, rainforest soils

Despite all appearances, the soil of a rainforest is exceedingly thin. Virtually the entire sum of organic matter of a rainforest is in the living trees, and 85-percent of that in the canopy.

Tall trees in the rainforest often use a system of buttress roots to support themselves in the thin soils.
