DESCRIPTION

Syntropic agroforestry is a great tool for land regeneration and food production. Learn how to design, establish and manage a highly productive agroforestry system that will benefit the local ecology, create bountiful harvests and regenerate the soil. This agroforestry system is focused in fruits, roots and perennials of tropical lowlands, never the less, the syntropic principles and knowledge can be applied to any climate and elevation. 

Topics that will be included in the class:

• Philosophy and principles of syntropic agriculture

• Rescue and value of ancestral knowledge

• Analysis and implementation of an agroforestry project

• Design of a syntropic agroforestry system

• Soil preparation, organic fertilization and planting

• Knowledge sharing from other experiences and projects

The students will obtain:

• Syntropic agriculture theory and knowledge

• Hands on experience establishing a syntropic system

La agricultura sintrópica es una gran herramienta para la regeneración de la tierra y la producción de alimentos. Aprende a diseñar, establecer y manejar sistemas agroforestales altamente productivos. La agricultura sintópica beneficia la ecología local, produce abundantes cosechas, regenera el suelo, produce mucha biomasa, captura y fija mucho carbono atmosférico. El sistema agroforestal que vamos a establecer está enfocado en frutas, raíces y vegetales de zonas tropicales bajas, no obstante, los principios y conocimiento de la agricultura sintrópica son aplicables a cualquier clima y elevación.

Day 1 - Friday: theory and basis

• Introduction to syntropic agriculture

• Analysis of site, needs and objectives

• Planification and design of an agroforestry project

Day 2 – Saturday: 

• Soil and site preparation 

• Organic fertilization and syntropic strategies for soil regeneration

• Establishing an agroforestry system following syntropic principles

• Planting a highly diverse system following the design

Day 3 – Sunday:

• Agroforestry management practical

• Sharing experience from other successful agroforestry systems

Jorge Espinoza (Mexico) and Kim Mejía (Costa Rica) of Waybil

Agroforestry consultants and practitioners specialized in design, implementation and management of over 20 productive projects in diverse climates and ecosystems of Mexico and central America since 2018; as well as course facilitators and teachers to over 500 students. 

They have learned from experts on syntropic and agroforestry techniques from farms in Brazil (Sitio Semente, Fazenda Ouro fino, CEPEAS, etc.) and Mexico (Las cañadas).

Waybill is an organization dedicated topromoting agroforestry through courses, workshops and learning programs in collaboration with projects throughout Mexico and central America.

Waybil es una organización dedicada a promover la educación agroforestal mediante cursos, talleres y programas de aprendizaje en colaboración con proyectos referencia en México y Centroamérica.

The class begins at 8 a.m. on Friday, July 19.  The night before the class begins, July 18, is included in the cost of the class.  You must arrive before 6.30pm the night before, we will not be able to attend you after this time.

course end and departure dates

The last day of the class is Sunday, July 21.  The night of July 21 is included in the cost of the class.
